Temp gauge seldom goes beyond 1st quarter mark in my car. What's wrong, temp sensor or thermostat?

I have a 2000 chevy venture. recently changed the water pump and gasket because the coolant was leaking from the engine. The temperature gauge in my car usually indicated at mid section between C and H. Now, the gauge indicates towards C near the 1st quarter mark and rarely goes beyond that. Is it the coolant temp sensor or the thermostat that I need to change? or is there other problem that i am not aware of?

thank you

did you bleed it properly when you filled it? there are 2 little bleeder screw for the cooling system that need to be cracked open when you fill that vehicle, is your heat blowing as hot as it used to? if you are sure its been properly bled and you not getting heat, I'd say t-stat, if you heat is as hot as it always was then temp sensor

tem. sensor must be changed
Well it coud be either one! Does the heater seem to work properly, -- as it did before, or does it run %26quot;kind of cool%26quot; and take a long time to get reasonably warm....If so, it is probably themostat!

This could also be because the pressure cap is not working properly (and may keep the heater from working properly too! You may be able to tell about cap,- if you have driven car a while now, - and you go out and pull cap off and look in radiator(cold engine), --if it is not %26quot;very nearly%26quot; full, suspect cap, - as when it cools off the %26quot;pressure seal%26quot;, should make it pull water from reserve bottle back in and fill radiator all the way again, -- and when running it pushes %26quot;expansion%26quot; excess of water into reserve bottle !

And of course it could be bad sending uit, -- did you get anywhere near it and possibly put %26quot;undue pressure%26quot; on it?? Sending units can go at any time and it may be a co-incidence, -- or maybe you damaged it?
