Our car keeps overheating, need help?

We have a 1984 cadilac seville. And it's been overheating. At times there will be loads of anti-freeze coming out from under the car. We changed the thermostat and the radiator cap. What else could be the problem? It doesn't %26quot;smoke%26quot; or put off steam when overheating.

There are a million reason why a car would be doing this, there could be a leak in the radiator's lower hose, the radiater seal could be rusted out, you could have run a curb and scrapped the radiater breaking one of the channels, if it comes out fast like this its probably the hose but I have seen bad radiator seals leak very fast. Also you could have a hole in one of your expansion plugs, either way your car might not be smoking because it empties coolent faster then it takes for the car to get hot enough to make steam. Take yoru car to a shop most liekly it isn't anything too serious unless you try to run the car while its overheating this will cause the car to permanently seize.

Heater Core, if its flowing anywhere out of your car and its not steaming from your engine, then its more than likely your heater core.
Are you sure the thermostat is in correctly?

It can be put in backwards - and will cause this problem.

Next take it out - and open the radiator cap

Start the car and look to see if the antifreeze is flowing around - if not you have a clogged radiator.

Also check the water pump which may have broken bent fins, not pushing the water correctly.
I'd first check that the water pump is working properly. Next, I'd check if the thermostat was put in correctly. Failing that I'd head for a dealership to get them to check the system.

How long since you did a coolant flush and fill?
