Why is my car overheating with no heat?

I have a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. Now that is has gotten cold outside, my car heater doesn't want to work, and it keeps overheating. I already changed the thermostat gage.

What could be wrong?

Why is my car overheating with no heat?
Blown head gasket , very common on your car. The pressure from the blown head gasket is keeping coolant out of the engine.
Why is my car overheating with no heat?
Usual symptoms of the head gasket failure, combustion gasses escaping into coolant, gas is lighter the liquid, gasses rise to the highest point in the system(your heater core) and causes an air/gas lock so no coolant can circulate in the core,so no heat.meanwhile, the escaping combustion chamber gasses do the same in the block and coolant can't circulate,so no cooling and engine overheats.Get the head set changed.
check to see if cooling fan working. also after replacing t-stat you have air in the cooling system, this will cause engine to over heat. some engines have blead screws. rev engine several time will help purge the air.
try the water pump or the radiator...or you might not have coolant
youre low on coolant which means your losing it somewhere. get a pressure test done.
