Acura Integra question. Car THermostat bad?

I have a 90 acura integra. 2 days ago, I was driving on the freeway and there was bumper to bumper traffic, when i started to notice that the temp needle was going up. It went up to almost where the H is. So, I had to get off the freeway. Once i got off the freeway and was driving on the streets, the temp needle went back down, to its normal position. I checked the reserve tank and it was good. I changed the hoses and water pump like 2 yrs ago. What can be the problem? any help?

the fan is working allright. my car has 250,000 miles. what is the head gasket? what do you replace? how much am i expecting the cost will be?

Checking the coolant tank on a vehicle that old means nothing.

You MUST check the radiator, (when cold) to see if it is full.

If the vehicle cooled down when moving again - chances are the stat is O.K.

Check the electric fan to see if it is operating when the temp is 195 or above. There MUST be air moving through the radiator at slow speeds which requires the fan. At highway speeds - air is forced through the radiator without the fan.

It must be clean, (if it is dirty - the contamination will cause some restriction to proper cooling), If it is dirty then you are too late to change it - it must be flushed, cleaned, flushed and a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and distilled or de-mineralized water - NEVER TAP WATER.

ya just check the thermostat..and make sure ur cooliong fan is putting out enough air cuz just because its spinning doesn't mean its moving enough air
An easy way to check the thermostat is to let the engine warm up so that it gets hot enough that the thermostat should open and coolant to start flowing. Feel your radiator hoses on both sides of the thermostat - if one is cooler than the other, it's a good indication that the thermostat is not opening. If they are both hot, then it's a safe bet that coolant is flowing freely. From there, it's a matter of testing the water pump, and things like that are best done by a professional shop.
what ur describing is normal........shouldn't go so high but its normal for cars to overheat in standing traffic...

sounds like u need to have ur cooling system flushed and refill it with proper mix of fresh water/anti-freeze....

u can do this all ureself for under 20 bucks...go to any parts store and ask them what u need...u will need a flush and a flush kit and new anti-freeze....

** anti-freeze NOT only keeps car from freezing but also keeps car for overheating...
If it was very hot out and you had your AC on, it is almost expected.

When the engine is cold, take off the radiator check and check your coolant level. If it is low, than you have a leak, external or internal, and it needs to be checked out.

It is not the thermostat, if anyone says that. If it was the thermostat, you wouldn't even have gotten as far as the highway without going hot and boiling over.

My guess is low on coolant from a small leak, somewhere.
you should have changed the thermostat when you did the water pump. But it sounds like the radiator is bad seeing as the fans are working correctly. It will cost you $80-$125 for the part and is easy enough to replace yourself.
