Is Thermostat bad?Car needle on HOT. 90 acura integra?

I have a 90 acura integra. 2 days ago, I was driving on the freeway and there was bumper to bumper traffic, when i started to notice that the temp needle was going up. It went up to almost where the H is. So, I had to get off the freeway. Once i got off the freeway and was driving on the streets, the temp needle went back down, to its normal position. I checked the reserve tank and it was good. I changed the hoses and water pump like 2 yrs ago. What can be the problem? any help?

First thing to check is if you hear your electric fan coming on. It's proper operation is critical in your Acura. Also if the car has alot of miles a head gasket may be starting to fail. Good luck and hope this helps.

to check if your car is overheating because of the thermostat, take it out and run the car, if its still on hot, then its not the thermostat, their purpose is to warm your car up fast by not running any coolant and when its warm, to cool it by it opening.

the head is where all your valves and cam gears are. under that is your block where the pistons and the rods go up and down, inbetween is the head gasket which gets warn out from long life.

on a integra its not alot of work. used to own a 94 integra.

to change the gasket, take off the valve cover, theres bolts that go into the block threw the head, and take the belt off, the head will just come off, change the gasket, put the head back on, take the cams and align them at 12 o'clock by looking at the cam gears from the side, they will have arrows. put everything back together and it should be good.
