Car hesitates to start after no driving it for a month. PLEASE HELP?

I have a 96 Volvo 850. don't know the miles at the moment. I went on a trip for about a month. When i got back I tried to start my car, the first time it started fine but the drive was alittle jerky like it was losing its gusto. Later that same day i tried to start the car and it took forever, it would start then turn off or just not start at all. the engine would just keep revving up.

A month before i left for my trip i had some repairs donr on the car, replaced thermostat and replaced spark plugs because it was having the same problem. When it was repaired the car worked perfectly and then i left town. Oh also while i was gone the weather changed .When i left it was hot outside, and i returned to cold weather. I thought because it was sitting for a month and the air is cold that it just needs to be driven around and get warmed up, but the car wont stay on long enough for me to warm it up, and when i drive it around neighborhoodhood, then minute i try to slow down, the car shuts off.

The oil change, and tune up were all around the same time. Serious answers only, Im not in the mood for answers that try to freak you out about some $2000 problem that i find out later was all wrong and not that serious and only cost me $50. Sorry i have to put that in because sometimes people on this site like to get crazy.

Anyways im curious to know what it could be, i like to have ideas before i go to the mechanic. Im thinking of just changing the spark plugs again, idk maybe they were faulty. The spark plugs are pretty new though, less then 1000miles on them. keep in mind the car ran perfect before my trip and no one else drove it while i was gone.

your grasping, you're trying to solve the problem and then you want me to be serious. You haven't even touched on the issues. I would find a local mechanic and have them keep the car overnight and ask them to put some gauges on the car, e.g. fuel pressure gauges and others to see what they read when the car comes alive the next day or if you can put it there for a month, that's when you need to see what the gauges read. Lets be serious, how can you make a $2000 problem a $20 problem, you can't a mechanic if honest will charge what the job is worth, others won't.

There could be a lot of things going on. The plugs should be fine if only 1000 miles ago. I would bet that when you had them replaced that was not the problem. It is probably an intermittent problem that coincidentally went away temporarily when you had the work done. Take it to a Volvo specialist and tell them everything, exactly what the symptoms are and what work you had done recently. It sounds like the shop you took it to just threw parts at it instead of diagnosing it. I know this is not an answer, but a list of things to do, but I really don't think it was fixed last time and there are too many things that it could be to list.
