Changed a thermostate and now running rough?? HELP friends car..and I'm stuck!?

Please help..I changed the thermostat on a friends car and now it sounds like there's a vacumn leak. I checked all the hoses etc. and can't find anything but it's idling really fast and rough? Any ideas?? Feel bad I messed up their car.

make sure you didn't knock any wires/hoses off of any sensors nearby. Sometimes on the thermostat housing there will be coolant-temperature actuated vacuum switches. They keep a vacuum port open or closed until the water gets to a certain temp and then it will switch. Lots of old carbs will have a choke that's actuated by these switches. Easy to crack and hard to detect. This might give you the symptom you describe. Good luck
