ive had problems with my car overheating before and i had it worked on my thermostat has been replaced and there is no leak.
Can needing an oil change overheat your car?
if you have little or no oil in the engine, it will cause large amounts of friction which translates into heat. running a car like this is very dangerous as you will likely destroy the engine. so to answer your question, yes, it can.
Can needing an oil change overheat your car?
no.unless your only running 1 quart of oil but i doubt that.
As long as the level is full, needing an oil change won't cause an overheating concern.

If left unchecked, eventually it can cause a lot of other concerns though.
